Standard Remote Review Workflow
A colorist is finishing a grade in the suite. The client is at home on a laptop, the producer is in another city, and neither has used Pixelview before. The suite has a Blackmagic UltraStudio or DeckLink on the grading system's SDI output and a Mac or Windows PC running Pixelview Desktop.
The day before
- In Pixelview Admin, select the suite's encoder and open Settings → Server. Choose a Preferred Region close to you and the viewers, and leave Input Color Profile on Rec.709 for an SDR grade. See Region and Color Settings.
- If Pixelview Desktop is not paired with this encoder yet, click Pixelview Desktop under Source, click Create pairing token, and paste it into Pair with Pixelview in the app. Select your capture device and set Profile to main10. See Set Up Pixelview Desktop. Using OBS Studio or another source instead? See Choose How to Stream.
- Click New in the Projects section. Give the project a Title the client will recognize, such as
Episode 204 Color Review, generate a Password, turn on Set expiration time if access should end on its own, choose Activate Now and click Create. See Create a Project. - Open Settings → Pause Message and save a short message such as
The stream is paused. We will resume shortly.See Branding and Pause Screen. - Click Start Streaming in Pixelview Desktop, check the thumbnail in Admin, and open the watch link yourself in Chrome or Edge to see what the client will see.
Sending the invitation
Under Watch link, select Password included and copy the link, or select Separate password and send the password by text message or phone. For named viewers whose access you may want to revoke, enter their email addresses under Viewers and click Invite instead. See Session Access and Invites.
Tell the viewers to open the link in Chrome or Edge, enter their name, and click the prompt to turn on sound. Safari works for SDR. See Watch in a Web Browser.
During the review
- Stream a few minutes early so the Viewers panel shows the client and producer as they arrive. If the stream is live before the picture is ready, click Pause for viewers, and Resume for viewers when you start.
- Click Start Video Call so everyone can talk. Stay in Review Mode to keep the picture large; switch to Discussion Mode when the conversation matters more than the picture. See Collaboration Tools.
- Use Draw to circle the area you are talking about and Clear when you move on. Notes and approvals go in Chat so they are written down.
- If someone reports a stuttering picture, point at their row in the Viewers panel and click Stats. Packet loss and a low bitrate usually mean their connection, not yours. See Viewer Management.
- For a break or a private conversation in the suite, click Pause for viewers. Viewers see your pause message instead of the picture.
After the review
- Stop the stream in Pixelview Desktop, or from its panel under Source in Admin.
- Delete or archive the project, or let it expire, so the link stops working. Revoke any email invites that should not survive to the next version.
- For the next client or the next version, create a new project with a new password. The encoder, pairing and settings stay as they are.
