Facility and Team Review Workflow

A post house has two color suites and an edit bay, each with a Blackmagic capture device, and a coordinator who schedules client reviews. Operators should run their own rooms, the coordinator should set up projects and invites, and nobody should share a login. In Pixelview, the facility is a team, each room is an encoder, and each client review on a room is a project.

Set up the facility once

  1. On the Account page in Pixelview Admin, click Create Team, enter a Team Name and tick the encoders under Share Encoders. Use Add Encoder until there is one encoder per room that streams at the same time. See Teams and Roles.
  2. Name each encoder after its room, such as Color 1, Color 2 or Edit Bay 2, and keep the names stable so operators always know where to stream.
  3. Click Manage Team and, under Invite Team Member, invite each operator and the coordinator. Give operators and the coordinator Editor; keep Admin for the people who manage the team, and the Owner role with the account holder. Enable auto-join adds anyone who signs up with your company's email domain.
  4. In each room, pair Pixelview Desktop with that room's encoder once. A paired desktop reconnects by itself every time it opens.
  5. For each encoder, open Settings → Server and set the Preferred Region and Input Color Profile the room normally uses (Region and Color Settings), and upload the facility logo in Settings → Branding (Branding and Pause Screen). If clients should never get a forwardable link, turn on Always disable group links in Settings → Other.
  6. Ask every member to turn on Two-Factor Authentication under Security Settings on the Account page. See Security Best Practices.

Booking and running a review

  1. The coordinator selects the room's encoder, clicks New in Projects, and creates the project with the client's name and version in the Title, a generated Password, and Set expiration time for the booking window. See Create a Project.
  2. The coordinator invites the client from the Address Book under Viewers, or copies the watch link, and sends the joining instructions. See Session Access and Invites.
  3. At the booked time, the operator clicks Activate on the project if it is not active yet, then Start Streaming in Pixelview Desktop.
  4. During the review, the operator runs the suite while the coordinator keeps the Viewers panel open, answers chat, checks Stats for anyone with a poor connection, and uses Kick if needed. See Viewer Management. Either can click Pause for viewers for a break.
  5. If a stream gets stuck, click Restart Server in Admin. See When a stream stutters or gets stuck.
  6. Afterwards, the coordinator deletes or archives the project. Each new client or version gets a new project; the encoder and its pairing stay as they are.

Each encoder is one live stream, so three suites can review with three clients at the same time. A screening room without a capture device can still join a session as a viewer: a Mac running Pixelview Desktop in Receiving mode plays it out over SDI. See the Screening Room and Apps Workflow.

For the step-by-step inside one session, see the Standard Remote Review Workflow. When a member leaves the facility, remove them in Manage Team; their login stops working on every encoder and nobody else is affected.
