Avid Media Composer, Direct to Pixelview
Avid Media Composer Ultimate (with the SRT output option) can send playback straight to Pixelview over SRT, with no capture device or extra software. For regular client sessions, Avid through OBS has proven more reliable.
If Avid feeds a monitor through a Blackmagic or AJA device, Pixelview Desktop or OBS Studio with a capture device gives better quality. See Choose How to Stream.
Setup
- In Avid, right-click the HW/SW button in the timeline, choose SRT, and open its settings.
- In Admin, on an active project (Create a Project), click Setup Instructions and choose Avid Media Composer, Direct SRT connection.
- Copy the values from Admin into Avid:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Mode | Caller |
| Server | Copy from Setup Instructions |
| Port | Copy from Setup Instructions |
| Latency | Copy from Setup Instructions |
| Passphrase | Copy from Setup Instructions |
- Set Quality to Low. Higher settings use far more bandwidth than a live session needs and cause stutter.
- Keep Admin open in your browser; this readies the server to receive your stream.
- Click the HW/SW button so that it blinks. If it does not blink, open Admin first and click it again.
- Wait for the thumbnail in Admin, open the viewer link to check picture and sound, then invite your viewers. See Watch in a Web Browser.
If it does not connect
- Make sure the project is active in Admin.
- Re-copy the values from Setup Instructions. They belong to this encoder only.
- Some office networks block SRT. Try another network, or use Avid through OBS.
