Hardware Encoder ​

The Pixelview hardware encoder is a small Magewell box that arrives configured for your account: no software to install and nothing to copy from Admin. It suits rooms with no computer to spare, or where anyone should be able to start a session. Order one at pixelview.io/hardware.

Get started ​

  1. Connect your suite's SDI output to the encoder's SDI input. The loop-out can feed your monitor.
  2. Connect Ethernet.
  3. Connect power. The encoder starts streaming by itself.
  4. Sign in to Pixelview Admin with the link on the back of the box.
  5. Create or activate a project. See Create a Project.
  6. Wait for the thumbnail, then open the viewer link to check picture and sound, and invite your viewers.

Next time, you only need to power it on and activate a project.

HDR

The hardware encoder streams SDR. For HDR beta sessions, use Pixelview Desktop with a Blackmagic capture device.

Change settings on the encoder ​

You rarely need to. First sign in to the encoder.

Change the bitrate ​

Bitrate is how much data the stream uses. Lower it if your upload speed is limited.

  1. On the encoder, click Encoding Parameters, then Advanced settings. Change the bitrate and save.
  2. In Pixelview Admin, open Settings and set Chrome/Firefox bitrate to a matching value. Pixelview uses it for the version of your stream it prepares for browsers that cannot play the encoder's format directly.

Connect to Wi-Fi ​

A cable is more reliable. If you have to use Wi-Fi, click Network on the encoder, find the Wi-Fi settings, and select Change.

Change video levels ​

The encoder is set to Limited (video) levels, which is correct for most SDI outputs. If your picture looks washed out or too contrasty, click General on the encoder and change Color Format and Quantization to match your output.
